Children

There are so many children in the past and today that don´t have a secure and safe home. They don´t get the nurturing which they need and they never get to feel loved.

I believe that the most important thing for a child is a home, a real home where they can feel secure and loved. Without this they don´t get a childhood, they can´t be the children we all want them to be, playing and having fun with friends.

In some homes everything is misery, drinking, drugs, beating, screaming and sex. In their world it doesn´t exist any embraising hugs or fairytales with happy endings. I think that it is our responsibility as adults and more important as teachers. To keep our eyes open and don´t look the other way when we see the signals.

When thinking of these children, that lives this kind of lives. Other things like too much computer time or bad television programmes don´t seems to be a big problem anymore.

  1. Dear Anna,

Thanks for your blog! I agree with you that there are problems that are so much more pressing than those of too much time spent in front of the TV or the computer.

Although your text is a bit short, your structure is fairly clear. You have an introduction, which I think would have benefitted from having been a bit longer, starting out with something more general, or perhaps an example. The subsequent two paragraphs deal with one idea each, although the ideas overlap a bit. For next time, try to ensure that each paragraph deals with a separate idea! You have topic sentences, but they are a bit long, especially as compared to the fairly short paragraphs. The contents of your concluding paragraph is good, but you might have made things even clearer if you had said e.g. “When thinking of children who grow up without love and security, other things seem...” instead.

As to language, you have a couple of sentence fragments. The first one is in “To keep our eyes open and don´t look the other way when we see the signals.”. You mustn’t write sentence fragments, so instead write: “I think that it is our responsibility as adults and more important as teachers to keep our eyes open and don´t look the other way when we see the signals.”. Another sentence fragment is the following: “When thinking of these children, that lives this kind of lives.” It should also be connected to the following sentence by a comma. If you have an auxiliary verb, or a form of “do”, then you never add a third person singular –s to the main verb, e.g. in “bad television programmes don´t seems to be a big problem”. Check out when to use “it” and “there” as formal subjects (§194), as in “In their world it doesn´t exist any embraising hugs”. In that same sentence you should also use “embrace” either as a noun or a verb: “embraces” or “embracing”. It does not exist as an adjective. “Hugs” should be deleted (or possibly be used instead of the “embrace” form!).

Looking forward to reading your next blog!

    Best,
    Marika

  2. I do agree with you that a safe and secure home where the children can feel loved is one of the most importent things!

Interesting thoughts but a bit short. I Would have liked more descriptions and examples.
